Four kinds of knowing

Eric is not cleared away so Greg can matter. He is the children’s father. Greg’s love expands the family. Molly and Greg can become partners without rewriting Molly and Eric’s history. Eric and Mira can choose each other later without turning earlier bonds into mistakes.

Molly and Mira are best friends. The friendship keeps the women from being framed as rivals, and it becomes one of the bridges between human and Nytheri life.

• Greg — observation, resonance, restraint, governance, and Nytheri institutional memory.
• Molly — relational intelligence, translation, care, and practical meaning.
• Eric — medicine, emergency judgment, and lived fatherhood.
• Mira — exploration, diplomacy, design, female Nytheri continuity, and spatial-fold technology.

They are not required to agree. Their function is to stop Haven 8 from being built out of only one kind of intelligence. Human knowledge does not become obsolete beside Nytheri knowledge. Nytheri knowledge is not reduced to spectacle.

Old Nytheri society divided survival by function. Men primarily held governance and the doors of continuity at home. Women were the outward arm: explorers, diplomats, negotiators, peacemakers, and warriors when required.

During planetary collapse there was no option that preserved everyone. The women were sent farther than contact had ever been reliably kept. From home, that looked like sacrificing half a civilization so some continuity might remain. From the ships, home might already be gone.

The Judge’s severance sits inside that history. He cut himself off from collective feeling long enough to act. When resonance returned, the civilization felt both the victims’ pain and the absence where his shared consequence should have been. The wound is not only the choice. It is the discovery that authority can keep functioning by refusing to feel the cost.
